| The Missouri River measures depths of up to 205
feet deep. There
are four Missouri River reservoirs which
provide over 900 square miles of fun.
Lake Francis Case on the Missouri River,
extends
101 miles and measures 140 feet deep at Ft.
Randall Dam.
Walleyes
are the most often caught fish in this
lake. In addition to walleye, more
than 20 species of fish swim the waters of
Lake Francis Case, including trout, catfish, northern pike, perch,
and small mouth bass.
Burning
bluffs
When
Lewis and Clark traveled through
this area they observed what
looked like burning bluffs.
This natural phenomenon is caused
from oil and
organic materials contained in the bluffs that
once ignited, can
burn on their own. This creates a look
of a fire without the
flames. Although
this is rare and unpredictable, it has been
seen in the bluffs from Fort Randall to
Chamberlain.
